In a world where music has the power to unite and transform, a powerful wave is rising in the bass music scene. Women Bass, a collective of fierce, talented women, is redefining the industry and proving that bass music knows no boundaries. From DJs and producers to activists and supporters, this collective is not only amplifying the voices of women in the electronic music world but also building a vibrant community where creativity and unity thrive. In this article, we’ll dive into the heart of Women Bass, explore the incredible individuals behind it, and highlight their mission to make space for women in bass music.
The Members of Women Bass: A United and Passionate Team
Women Bass is primarily a collective of women with diverse backgrounds, all united by the same passion: Bass Music. Each member brings a unique touch to the initiative, whether as a DJ, producer, or activist. Some are already well-established on the music scene, while others are newcomers to the industry. This collective is a true supportive community where everyone finds their place and can grow in an encouraging environment. Their collective work proves that unity is strength and that women play a significant role in the evolution of music.
Presentation of the Speakers
Artemis: Founder and president of Women Bass, she manages booking, event communication, and partner outreach.
Rinma: Arrived in Toulouse in 2023, she joined Women Bass after meeting Artemis. A member of the All-Right Association crew, she now handles Instagram communication and collective promotion.
Lestik: Host of Women Mic (with Mogo and Baelam) and drum & bass DJ, she joined the association in March 2024, motivated by her friendship with Artemis and her desire to support the project.
Baelam: The latest recruit to Women Bass, a drum & dubstep DJ, she brings experience gained at Karnage and becomes the collective's new DJ, graphic designer, and co-host of Women Mic.
The Creation of Women Bass: A Collective Born from a Need for Visibility
Women Bass was born from Artemis' desire to create an egalitarian space in the Toulouse electronic scene. After facing several personal challenges, she wanted to break gender stereotypes and provide women DJs and producers with a platform for visibility. The collective quickly grew to include artists like Angie, Rinma, Popi, Mogo, Lestik, and finally Baelam. Women Bass organizes events to deconstruct stereotypes and highlight minority talents, with dates in bars, iconic venues like Le Bikini and Le Rex, and participation in festivals such as the Oh La La Festival.
Collaborations and Expansion: Projects with National Reach
Collaborations with other collectives and artists play a crucial role in the development of the project. The Women Bass girls have already established partnerships in cities like Paris, Marseille, and Tours and dream of expanding even further. These synergies between collectives not only strengthen the local scene but also create bridges between different musical movements, emphasizing solidarity, diversity, and the fight against discrimination.
Karnage x Women Bass
The event Le Bal des Folles marked a turning point for Women Bass. Thanks to collaborations like the one with Karnage, the collective gained recognition, creating more visible events and performances. Rinma fondly remembers meeting influential women like Élisa Do Brasil and Syncope.
New Voices and Instruments on Stage
In their upcoming projects, the Women Bass girls want to incorporate even more female talent, particularly by giving them a microphone. On February 22, 2025, for the collective's two-year anniversary, Europe, a female MC, performed for the first time on a B2B set, symbolizing a new stage in women's involvement in electronic music. But the goal doesn't stop there: collaborations with artists from all backgrounds are planned, including integrating live instruments, to further enrich events. The girls continue to open doors so that every artist or form of art can freely express itself.
Women Mic: A Show for Visibility
Women Mic, Women Bass' radio show, gives a voice to engaged artists. This program is a space for exchange around music and social causes, addressing topics like inclusivity and diversity in the music scene. By offering a platform to artists who use their art to convey messages of change, Women Mic breaks down barriers and allows everyone to be heard on issues that deeply affect them.
Spreading a Message of Resistance and Empowerment
The Women Bass project goes beyond the local scene and music. It aims to carry a powerful message: that music is a means of expression and resistance. For the girls, Bass Music should be a space where everyone can belong, regardless of gender, background, or beliefs. They are determined to continue their work of emancipation and support for the female scene, reaching a wider audience. The idea is to create a community where women can feel strong, supported, and inspired to create, share, and fight together for a better future.
As Women Bass continues to grow and expand, they’re breaking down barriers and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the music scene. Their dedication to inclusivity, empowerment, and collaboration serves as a powerful reminder that music is more than just sound—it’s a movement. Through their events, their projects, and their unwavering commitment to the cause, they are changing the landscape of bass music for good. The future of Women Bass is bright, and with every beat, they’re paving the way for more women to rise, create, and make their mark on the world.
